But, do you know the story behind this plant? In Greek mythology, the origin of sunflowers is associated with the story of the nymph Clytie. According to legend, Clytie was a beautiful nymph who fell in love with the sun god, Apollo. However, Apollo did not return her feelings and instead fell in love with the goddess Leucothea. Clytie was consumed by deep sadness and spent days gazing at the sun without eating or drinking, until she eventually turned into a sunflower.
