The world froze when my Abuela passed away this past month.
At least mine did. Everything around me somehow kept moving. There was still work to do, places needed to be, things that needed to get done. Life didn’t stop just because, for me, it felt like it had.
She was the only other woman who raised me since I was little. Losing her was the first time in my life I experienced what it meant to lose someone I loved. 🕊️
One thing I’ll always wish I had was the chance to photograph her. Photography became such a big part of who I am, but I never got the opportunity to use that gift to capture her the way I would today.
So instead, I took this photo of my Abuelo surrounded by the flowers my Abuela planted before she passed 🌺
In a way, she’s still in this photo. In the flowers she cared for, in the home and life they built together, and in the man who loved her.
I never got to take her portrait, but maybe this is the closest I’ll ever get. ❤️
