#CouchWisdom pt. 3
Two weeks today since my Achilles said “see ya!”
I got asked shortly after if I felt relieved at all to be unquestionably done. Any sense of freedom, or like a weight had been lifted.
I struggled a bit to answer and have thought about it a bit since. Best I can come up with is this explanation.
If I made it to December, the answer would have been a resounding yes. But having the choice taken away from me changed the equation.
We can get used to anything. I had a lot of training to do and competitions to prepare for and it felt daunting at times, but now that I can’t it’s more clear what a privilege it is to have a healthy body, especially one that can do the amazing things I could do.
Now I don’t get to do those things, and that feels much worse. I suppose we always want what we can’t have.
It’s a good reminder not to take things for granted, and that the way we frame things can change our appreciation for them.
Words are powerful, use them to your advantage.
