Baby emperor penguins owe their start to their dads — who spend the darkest months of winter holding the egg on their feet, without eating, until it hatches. Once the chicks arrive, they stay huddled close for warmth, still unable to swim for months. It is during this window that we can visit the colony safely, before they leave the sea ice in search of food. #WhiteDesert #Antarctica #EmperorPenguins Disclaimer: Please note that all people photographed are at least 5 meters (16.4ft) away from the penguins, in accordance with IAATO regulations.
