🚨 The biggest mistake I see
❌ Athletes don’t watch their own film.
🙋🏻♂️ When I was 16, I made this mistake ALL the time.
I never watched film of my attacks, so I never really knew what was going wrong.
Was my spacing off?
Was I too low?
Was I too tight to the net?
Because I didn’t know, I couldn’t communicate to my setter what I actually needed.
✅ As I got older, I realized how important it was to watch my own film and identify what I was doing well — and what I needed to improve.
🎥 When I watch my attacks now, I look for 3 things:
1️⃣ Spacing
2️⃣ Timing
3️⃣ Direction of attack
👀 This clip is a great example.
I communicate to my setter that I need the pop route ball pushed a little farther outside so I can attack the ball to Zone 1.
The better you understand your own film, the better you can communicate with your setter — and the better you’ll become as a middle.
