🐕‍🦺 It’s a common misconception that emotional support dogs and therapy dogs are the same as #servicedogs. According to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), a #servicedog is a dog that’s been individually trained to perform work or tasks to assist a person with a disability. Because providing emotional support or comfort isn’t a task related to a person’s disability, they’re considered pets. Only service dogs and their handlers are allowed in public places where pet dogs aren’t allowed. At Canine Companions, our service dogs are trained in up to 45 tasks to help clients every day.
