Tennessee drivers suffer hundreds of blown tires, bent rims and other vehicle damage each year after hitting potholes on state highways and interstates.
The state has a process to compensate motorists for that damage, but a FOX 17 News investigation found the overwhelming majority of claims still are not paid.
Jerry-Lynn Sparling moved to Nashville six months ago to start a new career. She expected some bumps along the way. She didn't expect potholes to become one of them.
“In 2026 alone, I had two blown tires and a bent rim now,” Sparling said. “At this point, it’s not even an inconvenience; it’s a safety issue and a financial burden on drivers.”
