China’s major river-to-sea canal in Guangxi is set to begin operations on Sept 16.
The 134.2-km Pinglu Canal links the Xijiang River with the Beibu Gulf, cutting the shipping distance between southwestern China and ASEAN by 560 km and lowering logistics costs by 18–30%.
Built for vessels up to 5,000 tonnes, it forms a key part of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor connecting China’s inland regions with ASEAN and global markets.
