Tourists are flocking to Tianmen Mountain in Zhangjiajie, central China, where a wingsuit flying championship is combining extreme sports with autumn sightseeing.
The 2026 Wingsuit Flying World Championship brought 16 elite flyers from 11 countries to compete in speed and precision events above the mountain slopes from September 6 to 12.
Spectators watched from the mountain’s skywalks as competitors launched from platforms and flew through the dramatic landscape.
Swiss tourist Yuri said he enjoyed being able to watch the flyers pass directly overhead, while US visitor Jack Luria described Zhangjiajie’s mountains as unlike anything he had seen before.
The event has also boosted tourism, with Tianmen Mountain recording nearly 30,000 inbound visitors since the competition began — a 73% increase from the previous week.
