More than 100,000 people have been displaced inside Yemen following the latest round of hostilities along the country’s western Red Sea coast, according to the UN Refugee Agency.
UNHCR Global Spokesperson Babar Baloch told CGTN thousands of others had crossed the Red Sea and arrived in Djibouti. More than 2,400 people have reached the country after fleeing the latest clashes.
Baloch said most of those arriving are women and children, and many have fled with nothing.
“Literally coming with nothing — they have just fled the fighting,” he said.
UNHCR is deploying additional staff and resources in Djibouti to support the new arrivals and those displaced inside Yemen.
