US Energy Secretary Chris Wright says oil and oil products flowing through the Strait of Hormuz have increased to an average of 10 million barrels per day.
Wright said the figure would rise further in the coming week, as the United States says efforts to disrupt shipping through the strategic waterway have been reduced.
He also defended Washington’s decision to deny a sanctions waiver to Iran’s nuclear chief, who was seeking to attend the International Atomic Energy Agency’s general conference.
Wright said the official was subject to US sanctions and accused Iran of trying to evade them.
He urged Tehran to make a choice, saying Iran had “not many cards” left as the US continues to apply pressure.
