Leadership on the front lines starts here. Today, CAL FIRE celebrated the graduation of the 12th Company Officer Academy class. This class brings the total to 431 CAL FIRE Company Officers who graduated in 2026, with more than 500 expected to step into leadership roles by the end of the year. Company Officers serve as Fire Captains and Fire Apparatus Engineers, leading engine companies and hand crews on the front lines. They are responsible for initial attack, station operations and, just as importantly, mentoring the firefighters they lead. After completing rigorous training at CAL FIRE’s Training Centers, these new officers will return to their units ready to lead, train, and serve their communities.
