Yamaha launches the YZF-R2. A new entry in the R-Series family. The gap between the R15 and R3 just got a lot more interesting. Launched yesterday, August 27 2026, the R2 is available in three variants starting from Rs 2,30,500 in India, with deliveries commencing from mid-September. Power comes from a 204cc liquid-cooled DOHC single-cylinder engine producing 26.5bhp at 10,000rpm and 19.1Nm of torque — 37% more power and 26% more torque than the R15 it sits above. Suspension is handled by USD forks and a linked Monocross rear unit, with a full TFT instrument cluster, traction control, ABS, and a quickshifter available on higher variants. The R-Series design language carries through from the R1 down — sharp bodywork, aggressive ergonomics, and the kind of visual coherence that makes the R2 look like it belongs in the same family as Yamaha's MotoGP machinery despite sitting at a fraction of the price.
