Your best new reps often quit before their first commission check. In a pure commission structure, reps make zero income until they close a deal — sometimes weeks into the job. If they're behind pace or just discouraged, they don't see a path forward. So they leave, and you're back to recruiting. The fix isn't more base pay or taking on more comp risk. It's rewarding activity and progress during ramp, not just closed revenue. We recommend layering small bonuses on top of the regular comp plan, tied to specific activity and production benchmarks during the ramp-up period — with no added cash risk to the company. Only about a third of the clients we work with do this today, but we recommend it to every client we serve because it can meaningfully improve retention. Pick 2–3 activities in the first 30 days that best predict production, and bonus reps for hitting them — separate from commission. Need help recruiting and scaling your commission-based sales team?
