One question keeps pet cards out of my good decks: what does this card do the turn I cast it? Draw, remove, protect, make mana, change combat, change the board? If the answer starts with 'if it survives until my next turn,' it's probably a cut, or you'd better be able to protect it. Setup cards aren't all bad, but in competitive Magic, and especially 1v1, every mana and every turn matters. Comment a card you love and I'll run it through the test.
