Hunger Is a Signal, Not an Emergency. One of the most overlooked skills in fat loss has nothing to do with macros. It’s learning that feeling hungry doesn’t automatically mean you need to eat. Hunger and cravings often behave like waves. They rise, become uncomfortable, and can fade if you don’t immediately react to them. I call this “hunger riding.” When hunger hits outside your planned meals, try this: Pause for 10–20 minutes. Ask yourself: Am I physically hungry, or do I simply want to eat? Have some water, coffee, or a calorie-free beverage. Change environments. Take a short walk. Get busy with something else. Then reassess. If the urge disappears, you probably didn’t need food—you experienced a craving or conditioned urge and allowed it to pass. If hunger persists, especially around your normal meal time, eat.
