After nearly three decades at ESPN, Suzy Kolber is opening up about the challenges of being laid off in 2023.
In a candid conversation with SBJ contributor Richard Deitsch, Kolber reflected on the realities of a sports media industry that is both highly competitive and constantly evolving.
She revealed that she had accepted a 39% pay cut in her final contract negotiation because she loved the work and the people she worked with, while also seeking more balance in her personal life.
Kolber described the layoff as "painful" and shared that one of the hardest parts was receiving little public acknowledgment from ESPN after helping launch and shape several of the network’s marquee properties over the years.
Now, Kolber is entering a new chapter as executive producer and host of The Originals on Scripps Sports Network, a series featuring sports figures whose stories defy convention.
