Architect Stanford White's final project stands at the top of a hill in Brooklyn's Fort Greene Park. A column rising 148 feet, the Prison Ship Martyrs' Monument honors over 10,000 Revolutionary War prisoners who perished aboard British prison ships docked off Brooklyn's shoreline. On the evening he was murdered, White had been working on designs for the memorial — and the crypt holding the remains of those who died.
