On the day after the 125th anniversary of one of the most important events in Buffalo’s history, CHS was more than proud to welcome our nation’s 26th president, Theodore Roosevelt, who spoke to and with students in the Madden Center for Global Learning. Teddy Roosevelt’s visit came via a renowned reenactor Joe Wiegand, who was in Buffalo to take part in ceremonies Monday at the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural National Historic Site, just down Delaware Avenue from our campus. A reenactment saw Wiegand’s Roosevelt take the Oath of Office in the historic Wilcox Mansion where the historic occurrence took place on September 14, 1901, the day President William McKinley died, eight days after being shot. History teacher Justin Siuta arranged for the President to visit CHS, where he shared with students many stories not only about his being inaugurated in Buffalo, but of his life in New York and Washington, D.C.
