Faster than the Olympic champion?! 🤯🏃💨
On 11 September at Rio 2016, Algeria's Abdellatif Baka won gold in the 1,500m T13, clocking a time of 3:48.29, a new world record and 1.71 seconds faster than the winning time posted by that year's Olympic champion in the same event.
Astonishingly, the top four finishers all clocked times under 3:50.00. Ethiopia’s Tamiru Demisse won silver in 3:48.49, Kenya’s Henry Kirwa secured bronze in 3:49.59, and Algeria’s Fouad Baka finished fourth in 3:49.84.
All four times were faster than the top four finishing times in the Olympic final of the same event.
