South Carolina lawmakers are beginning an 18-month effort to determine how the state should regulate artificial intelligence, including its impact on education, privacy, and more. Upstate Senator Josh Kimbrell, one of nine senators serving on a newly created special committee focused on AI, discussed the effort Monday night during a town hall in Inman. “My vision for AI on the committee would be that it assists and helps with intelligence, it does not replace it,” Kimbrell said. “You’ve got to be able to control it.” The committee is expected to hold hearings around the state, hear from industry experts, and examine how artificial intelligence should be defined and regulated.
