Luft 12 Entry Stories 002:
This 1957 Porsche 356A Outlaw started with a $100 roof.
In 1999, its owner found a rusted 356 shell buried under rubble in the basement of a general store in Warrenton, North Carolina. The lower half was gone, but the manual Golde sunroof was worth saving. He cut the roof free, grafted it onto a better shell, and started building the car himself.
Health issues forced him to sell the unfinished project in 2004. Nearly two decades later, it turned up again, stored in a shed just two miles from his house. The boxes of parts still had his handwriting on them.
He bought it back and finished what he started. Today it wears its bare metal openly, with faded race numbers and sponsor marks airbrushed into the patina, then sealed under matte clear.
The one that got away came home.
