Turns out speed walking might be doing more than getting you there quicker š§ ā
ā
A study involving nearly 4,000 older adults, with an average age of around 84, found that the fastest walkers dubbed āsuper moversā were about 50% less likely to develop cognitive impairment during follow up periods of between 3.4 and 5.4 years.ā
ā
They were also 60% less likely to report being diagnosed with Alzheimerās disease or another form of dementia, while brain scans suggested they tended to have larger hippocampus', a region heavily involved in memory.ā
ā
However, researchers stressed the findings show an association rather than proving that walking faster directly protects the brain. Staying physically active is already widely associated with healthier ageing.ā
ā
Might be time to put some pace into that walk šā
