Carolina Herrera met Andy Warhol in New York in the 1970s. Moving within the same social and creative circle, they often saw each other alongside Bianca Jagger and danced together at Studio 54. Herrera later described Warhol as “the most introverted extrovert I have ever met.”
Carolina visited Warhol at the Factory for her portrait sitting, where he took sixty Polaroids. From them, he selected a frontal pose defined by her signature Gibson roll, red lips and emerald earrings.
The image became the basis for four painted portraits and remains a record of their friendship and the New York they shared.
45 years of Herrera.
