By the mid-to late 20th century, international student enrollment at US colleges and universities increased rapidly. STEM fields particularly experienced increase enrollment of international postdocs and graduate students. This would give US university system unprecedented international influence. It also helped build the foundations of an unprecedented era of American scientific discovery and achievement.
