Growing up in El Paso, I never really thought of myself as “Latina.” We were Mexicanas, Chicanas, Tejanas, Hispanic. It wasn’t until I moved away that I realized how unique it was to grow up in a place where Mexican culture was simply part of everyday life. I grew up just a mile from the Juárez border, surrounded by my grandma’s stories and recipes, frijoles de la olla, homemade tortillas, salsa, Spanglish, and traditions rooted on both sides of the border. I didn’t realize then just how much all of it would shape who I am. The older I get, the prouder I am of where I come from. And I feel incredibly lucky that through Muy Bueno, I get to share the food, stories, and cultura that raised me, especially with those who have ever felt caught between cultures, “not Mexican enough,” or somehow “too Mexican.” Hispanic Heritage Month gives us a reason to turn up the volume, but this cultura is part of who I am every single day. Happy Hispanic Heritage Month. ❤️🇲🇽🇺🇸 Photos by jenna.spa...
