✨ Morningside Heights is about to glow. The 15th annual Morningside Lights returns this Saturday, bringing a procession of handmade illuminated lanterns from Morningside Park to Columbia University’s campus. This year’s theme, “A Common Thread,” explores the patterns and motifs that surround us — drawing inspiration from different cultures, generations and traditions. Participants used those influences to create lanterns inspired by the geometry of American quilts, all connected by a visual “common thread.” The tradition began in 2012. Organizers originally hoped 75 volunteers would help create and carry 25 large lanterns… but more than 600 people participated that first year. 📍 Starts at Morningside Park — 116th St. & Morningside Ave 🗓️ Saturday, September 19 ⏰ 8 PM — rain or shine Want to carry a lantern? Arrive at 7 PM at 120th St. & Morningside Ave. Lanterns are assigned first-come, first-served. #MorningsideLights #MorningsideHeights
