As Central Michigan University students settled into the new semester, CMU Police Department officers responded to a range of calls across campus and the surrounding area.
One student was arrested after allegedly refusing to stop shouting obscenities at the opposing team’s bench and players during a CMU football game. In another case, officers investigated a reported firearm in a hotel parking lot, while other reports involved harassment, stolen property and online sexual extortion.
Lt. Jason VanConant spoke with Central Michigan Life about the recent cases, including the challenges officers face when determining whether a reported firearm is real and investigating crimes that happen through online apps.
