Bea Miller is opening up about what it was like to enter the music industry as a child.
“It’s really hard to create art with people who don’t understand your art,” Miller said during a first-listen event for Mr. Peaked in High School at The Lighthouse Brooklyn.
Miller recalled being surrounded by older industry figures who could point to having more professional experience, while she was left trying to explain something only she could fully understand: what it was like to be herself.
“But I know everything about what it’s like to be me,” she said.
Miller contrasted those earlier experiences with the collaborative process behind her new album, which she discussed alongside pioneering internet artist Molly Soda and creative director Justin Moran.
Republic Records and °1824 hosted the event before playing the 13-track Mr. Peaked in High School in full. The album arrives Friday, September 18.
