Minneapolis Public Schools is considering three transformation plans that could reduce the district from 59 schools to as few as 44 as it faces declining enrollment and a roughly $40 million budget shortfall.
Depending on the plan, as many as 16 buildings could lose their current K-12 programming. District officials say some buildings could eventually be used for early childhood education, community education or other district programs.
The district plans to hold seven public meetings before a vote expected this fall. Changes could begin with the 2027-28 school year.
