Instead of ending up in the trash, more than 25,000 boxes of fresh fruits and vegetables have now been delivered directly to people across Arizona through DoorDash. Borderlands Produce Rescue collects produce that retailers may turn away simply because it has cosmetic imperfections or there’s too much inventory. Volunteers pack it up, and DoorDash drivers bring the boxes straight to Arizonans who may have trouble getting to a food distribution site. And this isn’t a small operation. Borderlands says it has kept more than 750 million pounds of produce from going to waste since 1996. Good food getting used instead of thrown away, while helping people at the same time.
