Yuma Police released body-camera footage after a viral post described a July incident involving a 16-year-old girl as an attempted abduction. Police say their investigation found a very different sequence of events. Officers were called to a Yuma liquor store around 1:25 a.m. on July 21. According to police and witness statements, the teen had tried to purchase a vape but was refused because of her age. Police say she then gave a man money to purchase it for her. Investigators say the man went through the drive-thru but did not get the vape. When the teen asked for her money back, he refused and began driving away. She then grabbed onto the driver’s-side window frame and held onto the moving car for roughly 260 feet before the vehicle stopped suddenly and she fell into the roadway. One witness told officers the disputed amount was about $22. The incident later spread online as an alleged attempted abduction, along with claims that police failed to obtain surveillance footage.
