A Phoenix man was arrested after Arizona DPS says he allegedly pretended to be a police officer and used red and blue emergency-style lights to pull over a Tesla on I-17.
The incident happened Wednesday morning on southbound I-17 near Dove Valley Road.
According to DPS, the man was driving an older silver/gray Chevrolet pickup with red and blue lights mounted on the dashboard when he pulled over a Tesla occupied by a man and woman.
The Tesla driver stayed on scene and remained in contact with DPS while waiting for troopers to arrive.
Once troopers got there, investigators determined the man had no law enforcement authority and was not affiliated with any police agency. He was taken into custody and booked on a charge of impersonating a police officer.
DPS says it is releasing the information because investigators are concerned he, or someone using a similarly equipped vehicle, may have stopped other drivers.
