A 36-foot high-performance boat went airborne and landed upside down on dry land at Lake Havasu Saturday night, leaving two people who were on board passed away. Investigators say the 2019 Douglas Marine catamaran was traveling at a high rate of speed when it struck a large rocky peninsula just north of Cattail Cove State Park on the Arizona side of the lake. The impact launched the boat into the air before it came down inside a remote campsite. Charles “Chip” Romer, owner of Romer Beverage Company, and Jennifer Luzzi were found unresponsive near the wreckage. First responders attempted to help, but both were pronounced passed away at the scene. Romer was a well-known Yuma business owner whose company has operated in Arizona since 1982. Friends remembered him as a generous businessman and mentor who made a major impact on the community. The crash remains under investigation.
