Known as the “T-formation magician,” Bertelli led the nation in passing as a sophomore and continued to excel over three seasons, losing just three games during that span. His 1943 campaign was especially remarkable, throwing 10 touchdowns in just six games before being called to serve during World War II, yet still doing enough to secure the Heisman.
