A proposal that could change when drivers are allowed to turn right on red in Nashville is moving forward.

The proposal is moving forward with a much smaller immediate footprint than originally proposed, drawing different reactions from people familiar with similar restrictions in other cities.
The original version of BL2026-1497 called for the Nashville Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure to place “No Turns On Red” signs at all signalized intersections within Nashville’s Urban Services District, unless an intersection was later determined through an engineering and safety study to be appropriate for right turns on red.
Metro’s analysis identified 744 signalized intersections in the Urban Services District.
