The #1 reason beginner volleys die in the net 🎾 A beginner often uses a closed racket face on the volley — and that’s fundamentally the wrong racket angle. Why? Because a closed face naturally sends the ball down, not up. So when you’re standing too far from the net, there’s simply not enough height or margin to get the ball over the net. That’s why beginners NEED to get close to the net. An advanced player can be farther back because they understand how to use the racket angle to create backspin, lift, and the right trajectory. Beginner: Closed racket → ball goes down → must be close to the net. Advanced: Proper racket angle → controlled backspin + lift → can volley effectively from farther back. The goal isn’t just to “get closer to the net.” It’s to understand WHY you need to be there. #tennistips #fundamentals #mattjonestennis
