Japan’s Yamanashi prefecture plans to charge hikers for helicopter rescues on Mount Fuji during the off-season from September next year. The measure targets people who fail to submit a required climbing plan or ignore safety recommendations. Off-season climbers will also have to submit detailed plans, with authorities able to recommend changes to routes or equipment.
