The European Commission has proposed new rules that would prevent children under 13 from having social media accounts, while 13- and 14-year-olds would only be able to use supervised, limited 'mini accounts.' Children would be able to open their own independent social media accounts from 15, with platforms required to use safer, age-appropriate designs for minors. The proposed rules would also target features such as infinite scrolling, addictive design and unwanted contact from strangers, with fines of up to 6% of a company’s worldwide annual turnover for violations. The proposal still needs to go through the EU legislative process before it could become law. #europe#news#socialmedia#teenagers#socialmediaban
