Air-raid sirens sounded across many Chinese cities on Friday, marking the 95th anniversary of the September 18 Incident. Vehicles came to a halt with horns blaring and pedestrians observed moments of silent tribute.
On September 18, 1931, Japanese troops blew up a section of railway under their control in Shenyang and used it as a pretext for launching a 14-year war of aggression against China.
The incident also marked the start of the Chinese people's war of resistance against the Japanese invasions.
