Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi spoke by phone with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Thursday, discussing high-level interactions between the two countries.
Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said China-US relations have generally moved forward along a track of constructive strategic stability set by the two heads of state, meeting the expectations of the international community.
Calling head-of-state diplomacy the anchor of bilateral ties, Wang said both sides should prepare for the next stage of high-level exchanges with equality, respect, and mutual benefit — strengthening communication, advancing cooperation, managing differences, and respecting each other's core interests.
He added that this would send a positive signal of commitment to a stable, constructive relationship and to promoting world peace and development.
The two officials also discussed the situation in the Middle East and other issues.
