Russian President Vladimir Putin has urged citizens to take part in a three-day parliamentary election starting Friday.
In a televised address, Putin framed participation in the vote as a demonstration of national unity and support for Russia’s soldiers in Ukraine.
He said voting would help secure Russia’s victory and show resolve in the face of external pressure.
The election will determine the 450-seat State Duma, which has consistently approved major Kremlin initiatives. The ruling United Russia party is widely expected to retain its dominance.
The vote comes as Russia’s economy faces pressure and some opinion polls show growing public concern about the impact of the conflict. Most anti-war candidates have been excluded from the ballot.
Putin said the election would be a collective response to those seeking to weaken Russia, undermine its sovereignty and interfere with its right to determine its own future.
