In 1898 Phoenix Fire named Julio de Marron as its first Hispanic Fire Chief. Prior to that, Marron spent years serving the Phoenix community as a member of the all-volunteer Yucatec Hose Company, a fire company made up largely of Hispanic firefighters. More than a century later, his story remains an important part of ours. This Hispanic Heritage Month, we’re honoring the Hispanic firefighters and leaders who helped build the Phoenix Fire Department, and the legacy they left behind. #PHXFire 🚒
