In 1982, an Italian engineering student named Pierluigi Marconi wrote a thesis arguing that the telescopic front fork was the wrong solution for motorcycle front wheel control. In 1990, Bimota turned his thesis into a production motorcycle. The Tesi 1D used hub-centre steering — no conventional forks. Braking and steering were mechanically separated. Around 250 units were built. Test riders said they needed a full day before they trusted the front end. Bimota revived the concept with Kawasaki in 2021.
