Phil Read had four world championships when MV Agusta put him on the same team as Giacomo Agostini in 1973. Agostini had twelve. MV Agusta thought they'd acquired a support rider. Read thought he'd been hired to race. The conflict was immediate and never resolved. Read won the 500cc title in 1973 and 1974. Agostini left for Yamaha. Both won championships.
