In the 1950s, Britain made the most admired motorcycles on earth. Triumph. BSA. Norton. AJS. Matchless. By the mid-1970s, the industry was finished. Honda arrived in 1959 with machines that didn't leak oil and didn't need a mechanic to maintain. By the mid-1960s, Honda sold more bikes in a month than BSA in a year. The British factories held meetings. They formed committees. They did not change. BSA collapsed in 1973. Triumph went into receivership. Norton closed.
