A historic first for epilepsy care in Kenya. 🌍💙
WMCHealth neurosurgeon Dr. Carrie Muh and chief resident Dr. Sabrina Zeller helped implant the first vagal nerve stimulators (VNS) ever placed in Kenya and, according to local partners, the first in Central or East Africa.
The devices were implanted in five children with medication-resistant epilepsy, while local neurosurgeons and neurologists received hands-on training to continue the work and expand access to care.
This is global medicine at its best: treating patients, sharing knowledge and creating lasting impact.
