Sometimes people don’t misunderstand you by accident.
They misunderstand you because the version of you they’ve created in their mind helps them avoid looking at themselves.
If they have to make you the problem, the difficult one, or the person who is always in the wrong, they don’t have to confront their own behaviour.
You can spend a lot of energy trying to correct someone’s narrative about you. Sometimes the healthier response is to recognise it for what it is — and be careful about how much access that person has to you.
You don’t have to keep explaining yourself to someone who is committed to misunderstanding you.
