I was privileged to visit communities around the world to learn why health access and quality are so challenging at the ‘last mile.’ While I saw there was no silver bullet, there were important pieces of the puzzle - like community health worker models, mobile phones, and context-appropriate medicines and medical devices. However, after driving hours on rough roads to reach these clinics, we’d often arrive to find half-empty pharmacy shelves.
