The GSMA and the Partnership for Digital Access in Africa (PDAA) have launched a strategic roadmap to connect one billion people across the continent to mobile internet by 2030. Unveiled in New York, the framework focuses on closing Africa’s 906-million-person internet usage gap by accelerating the migration of 600 million legacy 2G and 3G users to 4G and 5G smartphone networks. The plan coordinates public and private investments across connectivity, local power grids, device financing, and digital literacy. Closing the mobile internet usage gap will unlock millions of new users for digital services, enabling local developers, enterprise cloud providers, and fintech operators to scale across underserved African markets.
